Specialized studies carried out in 2016 and 2018 show that around 2 billion people worldwide suffer from sleep dysfunctions. Of these, 1 billion suffer from obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).
These sleep disorders are the cause of many related pathologies such as hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases which themselves lead to serious health problems.
These health problems generate medical costs for the patient and significant health care costs. For the US market, this would represent +/- 150 billion euros.
The problem: underdiagnosis and tedious treatment.
Sleep problems are underdiagnosed and poorly treated for various reasons:
- Sleep test performed at the hospital,
- Waiting time for diagnosis,
- Treatment (CPAP) uncomfortable, noisy, sensitive à 35% abandon.
- Costs
Thanks to more than 10 years of research and the scientific validation of the monitoring of mandibular movements as indicators of sleep quality, the SUNRISE team has developed a lightweight measurement tool (Sensa) to stick on the chin of the patient.
Sensa tracks these mandibular movements and provides a 90-95% accurate sleep apnea diagnosis compared to polysomnography.
A study demonstrating this effectiveness was recently published in the prestigious journal JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association).
This medical device is linked to a proprietary machine learning algorithm that differentiates between normal sleep, snoring, sleep arousal and multiple respiratory events. It has been clinically tested and validated on 500 patients (100 to develop the algorithm and 400 to validate it).
